Seminar on Dispute Resolution, 27 September 2011

0n 27th of September 2011 GRATA Law Firm together with Herbert Smith law firm organised a seminar on Dispute Resolution in the Park Inn hotel in the centre of Baku.

The seminar was devoted to topical issues of disputes' resolutions with participation of Azerbaijani and foreign parties and conducted as an interactive discussion of specific case studies with consideration of the substantive, procedural and practical tools available to Azerbaijani parties to resolve disputes in foreign courts of general jurisdiction and arbitration courts. 

Vakhid Saparov, Director of Baku office, Azerbaijan, GRATA Law Firm, made an introductory statement and announced the speakers and the subject of the seminar to the audience. 

The speakers of the seminar included: 

- Simon Bushell, Partner, well-known legal adviser on large commercial disputes and related litigations. Mr. Bushell also heads the practice of Herbert Smith law firm in the corporate fraud and asset recovery, as well as founder of the Russian dispute resolution practice in London; 

- Maria Khanina, Associate of Herbert Smith, specialist in dispute resolution; 

- Javanshir Mammadov, Senior Lawyer, Baku office, Azerbaijan, GRATA Law firm, with extensive experience in advising clients on cross-border transactions, presented the participants features of the commercial disputes' settlement in Azerbaijan;

- Vidadi Mirkamal, Chairman of the Azerbaijan International Court of Arbitration, presented a report on Azerbaijan's Court of Arbitration, its history, work and the panel of judges to all seminar participants.

The seminar was attended by lawyers, legal advisers and the heads of legal departments of leading international and Azerbaijani companies, such as State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, BP, Saipem, Bakcell, Azerenerji, Total, Parabank, Tyco, DIA Holding, Pasha Holding carrying out their activities in Azerbaijan and abroad.
