On October 6—7, 2004 in Almaty the most prestigious event in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan, the 12th annual International Conference KIOGE-2004 was held in the Regent Almaty Hotel. GRATA Law Firm became the Bronze Sponsor of the event.
About 600 delegates and more than 50 speakers took part in the work of the Conference. Like in previous years the Conference attracted competent audience.
The key figures of the Conference were: Mr. Shkolnik V. S., Minister of Energy and Mineral resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Karabalin U. S., President of KazMunaiGas National Company; Sir Andrew Wood, the Special Council to the Prime-Minister of the UK and others.
A GRATA Law Firm's Partner, the head of the Oil and Gas group of specialization, Mrs. Saule Akhmetova, spoke at the Conference on legal environment for service companies.
The key of the speech is that the oil and gas sector is the dominant sector in terms of attracting foreign investment into the Republic of Kazakhstan. Further development of the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan will directly depend on successful implementation of public programs such as the program of Development of the Caspian Sea Sector belonging to Kazakhstan, Industrial and Innovation Development Strategy, and Regional Programs. Their realization will require the attraction of numerous service companies.
Thus, Mrs. Akhmetova devoted her speech to the legal and financial conditions for the operations of service companies, procedure of licensing of subcontractor operations and current problems of service companies. The mentioned speech drew much interest both among the subcontractors themselves and oil producers and oil-processing companies, as well.
On the whole, it must be emphasized that each year the Conference and the Exhibition draw more attention, as they provide the participants unique opportunities to meet, to discuss problems and development outlook in the oil and gas industry and contribute to the cooperation.
