International conference «Developing Kazakhstan Energy Strategy»

 

On 23 February, 2006 the British Embassy in Kazakhstan and Oppenheimer Technical Assistance Consultants (OTAC) hold a conference «Developing Kazakhstan Energy Strategy» at Hyatt Regency Rahat Palace Hotel (Almaty).

The representatives of Kazakh and Uzbek ministries and business circles among which were presented the heads of about 60 Kazakh companies and development institutions discussed the perspectives of enhancing the bilateral economic co-operation and the opportunities for joint projects` realization benefiting from advantages and economic potential of each country.

At the forum the firm was represented by Mr. Akhmetzhan Abdullayev, a Managing Partner, Branch offices` Development Manager, Mr. Zafar Malikov, Partner, Director of GRATA-TASHKENT, Mr. Umid Aripdzhanov, Senior Lawyer and Deputy Director of GRATA-TASHKENT, and Ms. Sofiya Shakhraziyeva, a GRATA`s lawyer in Tashkent.

At the forum GRATA got the participants acquainted with the range of rendering services and geography of its activity, the company's potential in the Central Asian region. During the forum new contacts were established, meetings with the companies interested in joint work were held.

On the whole, the visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, to Uzbekistan is considered very satisfactory. During the Tashkent talks the sides inked a number of intergovernmental agreements. In particular, an agreement on international motorway communication; an agreement on coordination in border areas of radio frequency appropriations in the zone of radio frequencies 30.0-1000.0 MHz, used by civic radio services of both countries; an agreement on co-operation in sciences and technologies; an agreement on о co-operation in protection of intellectual property rights. Besides, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Industry of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of RK have concluded an agreement on co-operation in combating locusts and other parasites and plant diseases. Also a protocol on exemptions from the free trade regime was signed. Apart from this, the talks have also resulted in establishment of an interstate coordinating council under patronage of both Presidents. The council that will work on a regular basis have been ordered to work out a programme of the economic co-operation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for 2006 — 2010.
