On 20 May, 2009 GRATA jointly with US law firm McDermott Will & Emery hosted a Seminar in London on Mergers & Acquisitions and latest developments in Kazakhstan.

The Seminar was focused on legal requirements and government policies affecting mergers and acquisitions in the region, as well as revealed some current developments in subsoil use regulation, including recent changes to the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Managing Partner of GRATA Law Firm, Rashid Gaissin, spoke about M&A in the Natural Resources Sector and the Key Elements of M&A Transactions. His presentation covered the state policy in natural resources and the ways of acquiring assets in the RK.

Aliya Aralbayeva, Senior Lawyer and Representative of GRATA Law Firm in the UK, revealed some aspects of Local Content Requirements in Subsoil Use Contracts.

McDermott Partner, Mark Crofskey, and Associate, John Rhie, highlighted the Use of English Law in CIS Transactions: both advantages and pitfalls, revealed some aspects of dispute resolution issues arising out of M&A transactions. The relevance of this topic is enhanced by the fact that it is very common nowadays that English Law is chosen by most investors in their concession or other contracts as governing law.
