Akhmetzhan graduated from the Kazakh State Law University (Almaty), in 1995. His post-graduate study includes courses taken at the State Institute and Law of the National Kazakhstan Institute of Science.

Akhmetzhan has also undertaken training courses in both Kazakhstan and Great Britain, including courses on Energy, Management and Bankruptcy. He also has experience of working for public authorities.

Akhmetzhan is currently a Senior Partner at GRATA, advocate and overall supervisor of GRATA's activities in Astana, Aksau, Aktobe, Baku, Tashkent and Bishkek.

Akhmetzhan speaks Russian, Kazakh, Uigur and English fluently.

Akhmetzhan has extensive experience in investment, natural resources and contract law. His practice is focused on multinationals, industry and financial institutions. He acts regularly for a number of high profile international and Kazakh clients.

He has extensive experience in negotiating with state bodies on behalf of multinationals, and in drafting new laws as part of various governmental working groups.

He is a regular speaker at Oil and Gas conferences and has numerous publications to his name.

He is a member of the Almaty Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Kazakhstan Petroleum Lawyers association.
