III Astana Economic Forum

On 1-2 July 2010 the Astana Economic Forum (‘Forum’ hereafter) was held in Astana by the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Forum was opened by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On 1-2 July 2010 the Astana Economic Forum (‘Forum’ hereafter) was held in Astana by the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Forum was opened by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Forum discussed the problems of post-crisis development of the world economy, including issues of public-private partnerships, development of innovative economy, and the possibility of attracting investment amongst other issues.

On 1 July, 2010, the Forum held PPP centers of the world, during which they discussed the following issues:

  • Creating conditions for attracting private investment in the development of infrastructure;
  • Improving the legal framework of PPP;
  • Strengthening the institutional system of PPP;
  • Extension of PPP;
  • Improving the effectiveness of state support for PPP projects.

On 2 July, 2010, a discussion took place around a table with the participation of leading international experts in the field of PPP to discuss the prospects of PPP in a global context.

The Forum brought together more than 2000 political and business representatives/leaders from more than 50 countries, as well as leading scientists, public representatives and the media to discuss key issues for the global economy.

Most of the leading experts noted that 2010 was a year of positive development in the reconstruction of the global economy, "but still remains fragile". Open area of the III Astana Economic Forum has enabled participants to articulate their vision of the contours of post-world financial crisis and resolve key problems, which they formalised in an open letter noted "The contours of post-crisis world" Astana consensus, to the Summit, leaders of the G20 (leading economies in the world) ".
